Week 35 Pregnancy Journal

How Far Along? 35 weeks

Size of Baby: A honeydew melon (18 inches). Our baby weighs 5.25 lbs now.

Gender: Our sweet little girl.

Weight Gain: Down a pound this week strangely enough, but still up a total of 17 pounds from my pre-pregnancy weight -- since I lost three pounds in the first trimester, up 20 pounds total from my lowest pregnancy weight.

Maternity Clothes: Yep. Definitely. The maxi dress I'm wearing is from Old Navy (here) and it's on a great sale now. Normally $34.94, it's now $19 and they are giving 15% off now with the code KICK. I find that it fits true to size -- mine is an XS (I'm a shorty). It even has a slit up one side which I love! Slipping a dress over my head is way easier than worrying about getting pants on.

Nursery: Almost done! In addition to all of the beautiful work my aunt did this weekend, I also spent Sunday setting up the Diaper Genie and the sound machine. Art on the walls is our next big step.

Movement: Oh yeah, all the time. Sometimes so strong that it makes me exclaim out of surprise.

Symptoms: BIG BELLY. I cannot lie, it's odd. You spend your entire life weighing around the same, plus or minus five pounds. I'm thrilled for each amount of growth that I do have because it means baby girl is healthy and growing, but sometimes I just look at myself now and I don't really recognize the girl in the mirror. Or, at least what's between my shoulders and my hips. I'd be lying if I said I don't sometimes yearn for that old body back. Ian was really comforting me last night about it, reminding me that we only have a little more than a month left, and that I should be thankful that I'm just now feeling this way. It is true. I'm really curious what my body will look like after delivering Miss Priss. Again -- very happy for my growth and for the miraculous way in which a female's body can accommodate carrying a second growing body in it ... but that doesn't change the fact that it's a wild, wild ride.

Sleep: Sleeping well, only getting up occasionally in the middle of the night, maybe 1-2 times a week. When I'm awake, though, the potty breaks are happening all of the time.

Cravings: Still loving sweet tea and peanut butter cups. Ian was sad to see the damage that had been done on the Girl Scout cookies he bought for us to share. Whoops.

What I Miss: This one is easy. I miss the "aw, you are so adorable!" looks that I used to get. Now I just get a lot of "oh honey, hang in there" looks. Like, with sad, empathetic eyes. I want to say to them -- I feel fine! Please don't worry about me! Stop looking at me like that for the love of all that is holy!

Best Moment This Week: Spending the weekend with my aunt in the nursery. That was perfect. We just had the best time together and the room makes me so happy. Also, we had a great prenatal meeting with our doula last night -- I know I haven't mentioned much about the fact that we are using one, but I will share more details. She is the perfect match for us, and I know she is going to be a priceless addition to our labor and delivery experience.

Looking Forward To: My sweet coworkers are hosting a beautiful baby shower for me Thursday evening!

I love to hear that you are using a Doula. I've had many girlfriends use them and just adore them. I'll be curious to hear your thoughts and experience.

  6. This around exactly the time I started resenting being in public for all of the sideways glances and heartfelt "Are you due tomorrow?" questions. Pregnancy rage went into overdrive. I remember, vividly, wanting to punch a lady in CVS for talking to me for over a minute about how she was sure I was on my way to the hospital (I was 36 weeks). People are just trying to be nice, I guess, but dang. Your sweet little girl's kicks can help temper the madness!! I used to talk to her about it at night and try to just remember to be thankful. You look amazing!

  13. You look great, sweet girl! I remember getting to that point with my son, and just thinking "how much bigger can this belly get?" But don't be too worried about your post-baby body. You will be just fine. You were in shape before the baby, and have stayed in shape during the pregnancy, so you will bounce back quickly! I was back in my non-maternity pants a week after giving birth and you will be too!:)

  24. You look stunning! I was shocked with how much your body changes, especially during the last part - but after having two girls it has made me really appreciate how amazing our bodies truly are. You will love having a doula! It was the best decision we ever made.
